“When I first started sailing, we didn’t have any special sailing equipment. We went to the sea in T-shirts, shorts and shoes, and in the winter we just didn’t go on the water – it wasn’t possible. I was very passionate about sailing, so I decided to write a business plan to start a sailing equipment company. I first put this plan into practice in 1975. in the corner of his father’s textile mill in Long Eaton, Nottingham. At the time we only had about 10 square metres of space, but it worked – we were flexible and creative, and always kept the end user in mind when developing new sailing products. It is this corporate mindset that has led us to the successful company and brand we are today, and is why so many sailors trust and rely on our products.”<\/p>\n\n

Today, Gill<\/strong> is one of the world’s leading nautical brands. Nick’s principle has always been to think differently and push the boundaries of innovation – and that approach continues to this day. As a maritime brand, we have a vested interest in ocean conservation. While we don’t yet have all the answers on how best to do this, we are implementing changes that, together, will make a real difference. We have taken steps to remove single-use plastics from our supply chain – by reducing their use (for example, our fish sauce packaging uses 75% less plastic) or eliminating them completely (over 20% of our products are now plastic-free, with more being added every season). We have also offset our carbon emissions by investing in forest regeneration projects.<\/p>\n\n

More than a third of our collections use recycled, renewable or plant-based materials. Our OS2 Storm Jacket and OS2 Offshore Salopettes make up the world’s most sustainable sailing suit, manufactured using 98% recycled materials.<\/p>\n\n
